This is 96-year-old Raúl Héctor Castro — a former Arizona Governor and a U.S. citizen — who was detained by border patrol in 100 degree heat. What makes this worse? Guess how many times he’s been detained.

A powerful Arizona lawyer called for a criminal investigation into some of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s officers after an autopsy determined they were partly to blame for the death of Latino military veteran in December.
Attorney Michael Manning plans to ask for an outside agency to examine the case of Ernest “Marty” Atencio, who lost consciousness and later died following a fight with law enforcement officers inside a jail in Phoenix.
The results of an autopsy released this week, six months after the death, proved what surveillance footage from the jail had already shown: Atencio would still be alive if sheriff’s detention officers and Phoenix cops hadn’t ganged up on him, pinned him down and given him electric shocks with a stun gun.
» Surprised? I am not. Put them all away including that poor excuse for a Sheriff.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett (R) said he’ll keep Obama off the ballot.
Bennett, the co-chair of Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign in Arizona, says he’s the man in charge of deciding whether President Obama is eligible to be on Arizona’s ballot in November. However, Hawaii officials don’t believe he’s qualified to investigate Barack Obama’s birth certificate. They’re making him jump through a series of hoops to prove he has the legal authority to investigate the matter, much the same way the birthers have made Hawaii prove time and time again that the president is indeed a natural born citizen of the United States. Yet requests like Bennett’s keep coming. The nonsense is spreading: the new Iowa Republican Party platform is also “intentionally questioning" Obama’s citizenship.
My two cents? —>
You racist fuck! —- And I’m not just talking about Ken Bennett here, also Mittens, and all the other crazies that want to support this sort of circus. —- Geezus! Even I can’t see the footing here and I LOOVVVEEEE a conspiracy theory. Do you ‘birthers’ think that some dude born in… xyz… got into Harvard, then became a professor, then a senator, then our President? He was raised in Hawaii by his white mother and white grandmother while his scary namesake was MIA. Now, what is so upsetting about this man? Because, though I’m not voting for Obama, of the two main options, he’s BY FAR the least frightening.
Lets play what thing is not like the other… If this isn’t about race why is Obama the only one having to carry around his papers?

We have to keep abortion safe and legal. Restricting access and erecting roadblocks to getting safe abortions only puts women’s lives in jeopardy.

And, new legislation passed in Arizona states that anyone with a uterus is now legally pregnant when their not menstrating. Even if they aren’t actually pregnant. Previously there wasn’t a legal start date for pregnancy, making it hard to cut abortion access off at a certain date. There’s a provision in the works that would make it so doctors can keep pregnant patients in the dark about treatments if said treatments can harm the fetus. Oh, and here’s the kicker — the woman wouldn’t be able to sue for this.

Picture this: Pregnant woman comes in for a routine screening. It’s suspected she has cancer. Doctor withholds this information because treatments for cancer are detrimental to the baby. Some months later, she finds out that she’s had cancer this whole time and her doctor didn’t tell her about it because the fetus’s health was more important than her own. She is not allowed to sue. And since she didn’t receive treatment, her chances of survival have dropped significantly.

Kansas just passed a document that allows doctors to lie to their patients. Yeah, you read that right. Also, abortions can’t be performed during the work day.

Idaho, Kansas, Arizona… WHAT. THE. FUCK. IS. WRONG. WITH. YOU.

A PBS story has boosted interest in the 2010 death of Anastasio Hernández Rojas on the San Diego border, the accountability of the U.S. Border Patrol, Arizona’s S.B. 1070 is probably going to be ruled just, and the ACLU wants agents to stop making traffic stops.

Anastasio died a short time after being beaten and tased, an event recorded by two eyewitnesses who say the man offered little or no resistance and was hog tied at the time an officer tased him 5 times resulting in a heart attach. One told Need to Know that she felt like she watched someone being “murdered”.

motherjones:

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Arizona’s immigration law today. What’d we learn? Well for one thing, when it comes to SB 1070, the high court’s conservative justices are living in an alternate universe.
